Explore your city: St. Augustine, FL

Take in the beauty all around you. Your escape is right in front of you. You don’t have to take a trip somewhere to treat yourself to a vacation or a weekend getaway, you can take one right in your own backyard!

On my day off this week I took the 30 minute drive to Old St. Augustine to explore the historic city and felt like I was in another world!

Yes, I have the luxury of living in a new place — so almost everything is a new adventure to me right now in Jacksonville. But, no matter how long you live in a certain place or city, there are always new areas and events to explore.

So don’t feel like you have to go away this weekend to go on a new adventure — find one at home!

The city of St. Augustine is one of the oldest cities in America, a settlement during the explorations of the “New World.” The Spanish influence is very prevalent throughout the city, it’s buildings and architecture. It is gorgeous!

We explored the city’s ancient fort — Castillo de San Marcos, strolled down St. George Street, ate at Meehan’s — Irish pub, sipped milkshakes at Cousteau’s Waffle & Milkshake Bar and explored the gorgeous campus at Flagler College — once a luxurious hotel.

(Want to really feel like a tourist in your own city? Buy a selfie stick! Yep, you’ll feel like a dork at first — but after a while it becomes fun and you get so many great photos with it!)

It was a fun adventure, in a town that has so much to offer! We will most definitely be back, as we were only able to try a handful of places in the abundant city.

So get out and explore a new city, neighborhood, hiking trail, park or festival near you this weekend. Adventure is waiting for you in your own backyard!
