On TOUR: Wrightsville Beach & The PLAYERS

What a month it has been! Two straight weeks of working on-site at two of the coolest beach towns on the East Coast. Golf really does take you to the BEST places at the BEST times!

Before the excitement of this past week’s PLAYERS Championship in the PGA TOUR’s backyard in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, I popped up to Wilmington, NC, for the Wells Fargo Championship – and let me tell you, Wrightsville Beach is where it’s at! The TOUR made a special stop there this year, as the tourney is normally held at Quail Hollow — host to this season’s PGA Championship.

An under-the-radar little beach town about an hour’s drive from Charlotte, where everything is just a walk or a bike-ride away — Wrightsville Beach provided the perfect slow-pace vibe to the start of my hectic work stretch.

From the beach cottages on stilts and the boat docks, to the seafood, fresh acai bowls and beach bars — there was no shortage of restaurants and entertainment on the small island.

I NEVER go back to the same place twice on my trips, I like to mix it up and make sure I’m trying everything that I can, but this trip I did it TWICE! I highly recommend Bridge Tender, they had the BEST crab cakes I have EVER had and I have had A LOT of crab cakes in my lifetime. (SO MANY CAPS!)

If you are in the mood for a good margarita and some of the best fresh-mex you’ve ever had at the beach, Tower 7 is where it is at (get the ahi tuna fajitas). I went to both places multiple times and would’ve gone back more if possible. For breakfast, Loops is a fun donut shop with delicious custom smoothies & Surfberry had TO DIE FOR acai bowls (try the peanut butter, banana concoction.)

And I haven’t even mentioned the golf course yet. Eagle Point is a gem and super exclusive (they admit less members than Augusta National!) The course was pure. EP brought Augusta National’s long-time superintendent out of retirement to make sure the grounds were in tip-top shape, and it showed. Players ranted and raved about the course – Wesley Bryan even said it was the best course they will see all year, period.

From the best of the best, to THE BEST – it was only fitting that I take the late flight home Sunday from Wilmington to hit the ground running at The PLAYERS Championship Monday.

After filming Trending On TOUR in the wee hours of the morning, I headed straight to Executive Women’s Day because there was no way I was going to miss that. It was an honor to host the EWD panel with top female leaders from the PGA TOUR, LPGA, Microsoft & NASCAR. Words cannot describe how proud I was to see a room full of Jacksonville business women all raise their hands when I asked if they play golf.

In addition, I was also featured in the May issue of Jacksonville Magazine’s Ultimate Guide to the PLAYERS. Another honor!

It’s hard to top all that, but from there, my week flew by – from Bubba getting slimed by Nickelodeon, the First-Timer’s press conference where Wesley Bryan listed off an incredible amount of sweet treats (you know how much I love sweets and even I was impressed) and our 2-hour live preview show on PGA TOUR LIVE, to countless social media videos, post-round interviews and nightly recap shows – it was quite the week!

Not only that, but my family came to town to experience their first golf tournament (professional – my high school matches definitely do not count) and boy where they blown away! (Come on people, you’ve got to try it! The most unique sporting event around!) The weekend was extra special, because I was able to spend Mother’s Day with my mom – who is my rock, my best friend and the biggest sports fan I know.

Now it’s off to Dallas for the AT&T Byron Nelson. I won’t give all of my upcoming projects in the Big D away, but there will be glass broken and Topgolf had. See you there!
